Scott Nicholson is the author of Liquid Fear, a new mystery thriller in which test subjects from a tragic research trial realize the experiment never ended.
So what is Scott afraid of?
Well, I’m an author, so I am afraid people will hate my book. Writers walk a thin line and often confuse their work with their own soul, ego, and self-identity. Because writing and reading create such an intimate connection, then an author can take rejection as a personal attack.
Really, it’s almost as painful as being rejected by someone you love, because creation is such a mission of commitment. It’s an act of arrogance, because you believe what you have to say “matters,” yet it’s also a humbling experience because it falls far short of just what it means to be on the kaleidoscopic mind trip known as “reality.”
If you’re lucky, you realize the story is just some words on paper, and not about you at all. Still, any story is the sum of all your experiences, opinions, feelings, and, yes, fears.
But you know what? I’d rather be rejected than to never take the shot. Because it’s the journey that matters. Go to the scary places and see what happens. Take your faith and your hope and your wounds into the darkness inside, and hopefully you and the reader will meet around a common light.
Liquid Fear. It’s not just a book, it’s an adventure. What’s your greatest fear, and how much of it can you st6and?
